How to be a SAHM, and not go crazy! (5 simple tips to being the Mom you dream about)

Ok- that was a pretty long title, right?  It worked, I've got you now!  So, how do you be a stay at home mom, and not go crazy? I have five simple tips to help you be the dream mom that everyone wants to be!
You are probably sitting there blinking at your screen right now in one of two situations. One, you are either a stay at home mom already, and you are on that borderline of crazy and postal...or two, you are sitting at your 9-5, missing your baby and on the borderline of crazy and postal.  Either way- you are very likely in a situation that is straight up crisis and you want out! I am here to help- please, keep reading!

First you should know, all those moms who you think "have it made", staying home, working, with perfect kids and clean houses. They don't exist. Once you accept that sometimes you don't shower for 3 days, but your kids are squeaky clean every night when you put them to bed- or, that it's easier to close the shower curtain than it is to scrub the soap scum off the wall... the faster we can move onto some survival tips.

Tip #1- Interact with adults at least once a week- face to face.  Most SAHM's have a work from home job. If you don't, get one.  It's the perfect excuse to get out among the adults in the world and have an intelligent conversation- one that does not include the words tinkle, poopoo or widdle punkin.  And let's face it, even Facebook does not fill that need to be social and connect with humans.

Tip #2- Don't forget to be a kid once in awhile. Play with your kids. If you can't beat 'em- join 'em. It's ok to let the laundry pile up on the couch while you drive hot wheels through hot lava and destroy the zombies with a bus.  That is perfectly normal and acceptable behavior- and your kids will never remember that there was a pile of dirty clothes on the couch.

Tip #3- Get a hobby!  Even with a very hectic schedule of kids extra curricular activities, a work from home business, and all the normal things like grocery shopping...there are times of extreme boredom. This is a time you need to find something to do  that keeps you sane. Take up knitting, or maybe start a coffee group,  play cards or pick a new subject to become an expert on and read all the books you can find about it.

Tip #4-  Eat chocolate. Self indulge once in awhile. You work hard and you deserve it. That's truthfully an honest statement. You don't have to talk yourself into it, or try to justify it. You. Do. Work. Hard. Reward yourself. And, give your praises to the Lord. After all, he let you wake up today so that you could work hard, and eat chocolate.

Tip #5- Date your husband (or wife).  In all of the everyday things. Don't ever stop dating your spouse. They are your #1 support beam in your life and you need to lean on them. Let them know you still need them, that they are loved, that they are your rock. If you divide that relationship, everything becomes twice as hard. Be a solid team. You don't always have to agree, but a healthy, strong relationship will make every single day a joy to have lived.

And there you have it, my survival tips to being a stay at home mom. Did you find this helpful? If so, share it with someone! Sometimes we just know these are the things we need to do, but need that validation from someone that it truly is ok.  Here's your validation stamp! Have a wonderful day!

I am blessed!

A year ago today- I'd probably be missing a week of work at a "normal" job. My 9 year old just went back to school today- husband is on day 2 of missing work- and I'm hacking up a lung as we speak- BUT- I am not missing a minute of "work". I am so grateful to be a work at home mom- because this week, despite it's crazy-ness, is going to pay off for me. All of my sneezes, coughs, cuddles with kids with fevers, every painful second sitting up at my computer prospecting, working with my team and running my business will have glorious results. Every sleepless hour, spent on my phone doing work I should have done on the computer, but couldn't sit upright for, will pay off.
And- my kids....all they will remember is that Mommy was there for them- she wasn't stressed out on the phone trying to rearrange her schedule, or crying because she's trying to figure out how to eat next week. They will remember that mommy came in and gave them water, crackers, toast and soup. They will remember hugs, kisses and lots of movie time. And, that's the way it should be! I am blessed!

Why you should quit being a liar!

Does my blog post title seem harsh? Yes, I'm pointing at you!  I just have a few bones to pick with you!

Are you one of those prospectors that say any of these things:

* The products sell themselves!

*You don't have to be a salesperson to sell this product!

*When  you have a great sponsor, you will have great success!

Ok. I'm trying not to hyperventilate here. I see these 3 statements every single day from people trying to build their team via social media. I do not believe a single one of them, has a large, motivated, successful team. Why? Let's look into that.

I'm not here to judge you, because honestly, when I was new to my business- I used the same tactics. I did not have great success with this. And now, after a few years, lots of tears and a lot of dedicated time to learning about what it is, exactly, that I'm doing here- I can honestly say- things are going in a whole new, positive direction for me.

Let's tackle each of these statements, one at a time. "The products sell themselves! It's so easy!"
 - You have immediately just set your potential teammate up for immediate frustration and ultimate failure.  Products do not sell themselves. I have never once seen a tube of lipstick stand up and apply itself to a pair of lips and say, "Wow! You look great! Buy me!" If products sold themselves, we wouldn't need distributors and consultants to promote them. It does take work, you have to get off your couch and show people the products. Wear them, share them, sell them.  They do NOT unpack themselves out of their starter kits and walk around your neighborhood.

"You don't have to be a salesperson to sell this product!"
- Again, you've just set your future teammate up for major disappointment. If you are in sales, you must acquire the skills it takes to be a salesperson. Everything we do in life is a "sale".  You must present yourself in a manner that is professional and trustworthy. You must have honest moments, and be ready to "sell" what you are offering.  Whether its your opportunity, or your product- you need to know your target market- and give them the value they are seeking.  You may not need to be a salesperson from the start, but you MUST be willing to learn to be one. You must seek teachable recruits, and seek those who are willing to teach what they learn. Skills are learned- and passed on. You will not make great progress with talent- you must gain, use and pass on skills.

"You need a great sponsor to have great success."
- This simply isn't true. Your success depends solely upon YOU. You determine your failure or success. Your sponsor cannot sell your products. Your sponsor cannot make your phone calls. Your sponsor will not hand you teammates. Your sponsor can only teach you what you do or do not want to be. If your sponsor is terrible, you know exactly what you don't want to be for your team. If your sponsor is awesome, you know exactly what you can learn, and pass on. It's up to you to seek out education about your business, to obtain knowledge about your industry, and to apply it to your business. No one can do that for you. You must become your own expert.
